The #5 mower was only built in 1955-1956; in 1956 they came out with the #7 mower. Do some more checking on make and model. The mounting pins look very much like an AC setup, except the wooden block is holding the front of the mower way too high. The breakaway hinge and the drive v-belt pulley also look like AC. Not sure of the model but sure has AC characteristics. Larry Collins wrote on Saturday, December 18, 2010 (PST): I'm positive its an Allis Sickle Bar Mower,Not sure when my grandfather bought it but it came wih his CA tractor...went to the Allis Chalmers dealer in Walpole NH (Pinnacleview Equipment) to get some info on it way back in the 90's I didn't know what it was,but the parts guy was patient and found a parts book showing the machine...casting codes on it also verify AC origin...I'm quite sure its a 5.I had to machine mounting plates to mount it to my CA pre snap coupler square type drawbar.It is positioned high on that block of wood so the guys could sandblast it....I replaced all the knives with International Harvester(JD are slightly different)serrated blades,There was a lever that controlled the pitch of the cutterbar,but the spring and locking mechanism got ditched by grandpa who put a bolt in the serrated part of the lock to keep the pitch fixed.I took the 6 foot cutterbar off and replaced it with a 5 that I found mounted underbelly on a B....the swath board was originally wooden,but I borrowed the swath "board" (its an iron rod)off Dads JD #7 mower which was parked.Still have the original 6 foot bar,but I like the 5 for mowing brushy stuff...it'll slice stuff off up to about an inch diameter.Another view of that mower behind the CA unrestored in tractor photos(1951 Allis Chalmers)It has a neat little two piece cast rim on the trailing wheel thats original...must say I haven't seen many like it out this way.
